Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare for heavy rigid vehicle operations
- Access, interpret and apply vehicle haulage documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Access, read, interpret and apply geological and survey data required to complete the allocated work in accordance with site procedures
- Obtain, interpret and clarify/confirm work requirements, before proceeding
- Prepare vehicle written records and carry out log-on procedures
- Operate heavy rigid vehicle
- Resolve coordination activities with others prior to commencement of, and during, the work activity
- Carry out pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures
- Operate ancillary attachments to the heavy rigid vehicle
- Operate heavy rigid vehicle with and without ancillary attachments
- Manage engine power, ensure efficiency of vehicle movement, minimise strain to the engine and drive line
- Recognise and respond to hazardous and emergency situations
- Complete work activity within the operating capacity of the heavy rigid vehicle
- Carry out operator maintenance
- Carry out visual and physical equipment inspections and fault finding
- Carry out schedule of routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping tasks
- Carry out schedule of minor maintenance
- Provide operator support during preparation for, and conduct of, major maintenance tasks
